Overall Purpose

The primary function of this position is to facilitate the process of recovery to the spiritual, mental/emotional, and physical person through counseling and teaching.  This holistic approach to recovery from addictive behaviors complies with the State of New Jersey drug rehabilitation program mandates and is in accordance with the Good News Home program.

The primary focus for this and any area of the recovery process is to build a spiritual foundation.  Therefore, the counselor must incorporate biblical application and concepts in every interaction.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients to obtain personal information and medical histories and consult with other professionals to get a clear picture of the client's status and extent of problems.
  • Design a program of treatment and rehabilitation tailored to the client's situation based on knowledge of substance dependency and counseling and treatment methods.
  • Use a combination of individual and group counseling sessions to help clients and observe their attitudes and readiness to accept help and guidance.
  • Meet with family members to educate them on the roles they can play in the recovery process.
  • Educate clients about community-based organizations and employment services that may help restore them to productive roles in the community.
  • Knowledgeable of NJSAMS.
  • Maintain case histories and progress reports through Electronic Health Records (EHR). Modify treatment programs based on observation.
  • Assist clients with coping with family problems and recommends appropriate social services as support for the entire family unit.
  • Interact with and be available to all women in the program.
  • Maintain timely communication with staff regarding client issues.
  • Manage the biosocial/legal aspects of each client (case management functions).
  • Oversee the personal shopping of each client to help develop personal and financial skills.

Experience

• LCADC or CADC certified.
• CCS is preferred but not required.
• Empathetic manner in dealing with clients who may have multiple problems.
• Experience working with women in a group home environment is both helpful and critical.
• Knowledge of the dynamics and interdependency of addiction and spiritual void.
• Assessment/evaluation skills.
• Integrated knowledge of the scripture.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, clients, and the public.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Self-motivated and requiring minimal supervision.
